SilverLining and University of Washington: Climate Data 2.0: Opportunity and Urgency for Expanding Data to Ground Models, AI and Decision-making

Climate and AI models are only as reliable as the data informing them, and the global atmosphere remains critically under-observed. SilverLining's Executive Director Kelly Wanser hosts a roundtable with Joel Thornton, Atmospheric Scientist and Dean of the College of the Environment; Jessica Seddon, Senior Fellow at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs and Director of the Deitz Family Initiative on Environment in Global Affair; Jed Sundwall, Executive Director of Radiant Earth, Tom Ryerson, former NOAA senior scientist and Principal Scientist at SilverLining; and others on the imperatives and opportunities for expanding data to rapidly improve climate analyses and projections to advance against an array of climate challenges. The discussion features Scaled Observations for Atmospheric Resilience (SOAR), a program deploying advanced atmospheric instruments on commercial ships to transformatively lift global climate, data inform models, and reduce key uncertainties in climate projections.
