SilverLining Applauds ARIA Grant Awardees, Highlights Need for Careful Atmospheric Research
LONDON (May 7, 2025) — Today, the UK’s Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) announced the projects funded by its Exploring Climate Cooling programme. SilverLining, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring a safe and secure Earth system, applauds the grantees and the UK government’s clear recognition of the need for research to advance our understanding of the atmosphere.
Kelly Wanser, Executive Director of SilverLining, issued the following statement:
“We are heartened to see our friends at ARIA and the government in the UK recognize the need for responsible scientific research on potential interventions in the Earth system. The scientists awarded grants today are at the forefront of the careful study of science and technology approaches to reducing Earth system extremes and impacts in the context of public oversight and engagement.
“Escalating global weather extremes pose risks to communities and the environment around the world. The near-term risks of changes in global pollution and proposed interventions to reduce warming in the Earth system require better information on influences on the atmosphere than we have today to ensure safety. This funding is a step towards closing the gap in society’s ability to monitor and protect the atmosphere and environment. We applaud ARIA and this historic effort to support science and innovation for a safe and secure future.”
